Low Blow

Think the Cleveland Indians aren't desperate to close out the series tonight? In an unprecedented move -- certainly something I've never seen before -- they actually got Danielle Peck to sing the national anthem before tonight's game. Who is Danielle Peck, you ask? She's a country music singer and the ex-girlfriend of the Red Sox starting pitcher tonight, Josh Beckett. Unbelievable.

Here's what Indians spokesman Bob DiBiasio had to say about it:

"It's an incredible coincidence. Honestly . . . . this isn't another bug thing," (referring to the Biblical infestation of gnats that nearly devoured Joba Chamberlain at a crucial moment in the Indians' last series against the Yankees). "She's from Ohio. Her entire family are Indians fans. . . . We did not know anything about her connections to Beckett. The next day, we find out the rest of the story. . . . How are we supposed to know who Josh Beckett dates?"

They know damn well who Josh Beckett dates. That's what scouts are for. As if SHE didn't know! And Cleveland Indians fan my ass. Here's a picture of Ms. Peck from her Beckett-shagging days. She's the second one from the left. The one in the Red Sox shirt and cap:

I sure hope she was lousy in bed.

Probs not, from the looks of things.

Fuck.

2004 this ain't.
