Been awhile since I posted anything music-related. Here are three songs that I recently came across and now can't get out of my head.
The first, called Right Hand On My Heart, comes from The Whigs, a band out of Athens, Georgia (R.E.M.'s hometown). Here they are on Letterman two nights ago:
Very catchy, with a little of the mmmph and hoo ha I like. I downloaded their new album, Mission Control last night.
Next comes a song that's been out awhile, but which I recently heard for the first time on Left of Center on Sirius Radio. It's called West Coast and it's by a band called Coconut Records, who has as its frontman Jason Schwartzman of Rushmore and I Heart Huckabees (can't draw a heart on this thing) fame. I really love this song because it reminds me of my cup of coffee in California in 1991, and how young and free I felt at that time of my life. Oh, if only I could go back with the money and wisdom I have now. THEN we'd be talking. The video ain't bad neither.
Schwartzman's family reunions must be interesting. He's the son of actress Talia Shire, the nephew of Francis Ford Coppola, and the cousin of Nicolas Cage and Sofia Coppola. Go figure.
Last, but not least, we go way back in time, to 1982, and one of my all-time favorite INXS songs: Don't Change.
Too bad they didn't follow their own advice, as their music became progressively less enjoyable after Listen Like Thieves. And they hit rock bottom after Michael Hutchence killed himself. But don't those old, low-budget videos look cool now?
Ahhh the 80s.

Yes, the 80's did rock, especially INXS.
